Case study

Following its relocation in 2016, the Design Museum needed to evolve commercially to maximise the potential of its new location on Kensington High Street. In 2017 as Interim Commercial Director, John led a structural change with a wide-ranging specification spanning marketing, visitor experience, retailing, publishing and catering.

Bringing these activities together, John put in place much-needed processes and management disciplines and created greater scope for exploiting commercial opportunities. In 2021 John was asked to return to the Museum to lead and support the commercial team as the Museum came out of Covid pandemic restrictions.

During this second assignment John tendered and reintroduced public catering to the Museum following termination of the previous catering contract at the outset of the covid pandemic. He also coordinated the specification of retail system requirements and took this out to tender and set out a pathway for the Museum to move into Brand Licensing.
